Accurate irrigation scheduling maximizes the benefits of irrigation and reduces the damage over-, or under-irrigation does to your crops. Often people schedule irrigation by feel rather than by plant need. Unfortunately, some irrigation scheduling methods can be wildly inaccurate since plant water needs and the amount of soil water available to plants are affected by climate, plant size, soil type, and rooting depth.

Accurate irrigation scheduling aims to replace soil water lost by evaporation and plant use as precisely as possible. There are several online apps available to help today with irrigation scheduling. In fact, the LSU AgCenter is about to release a new app that is adaptive to drought conditions. This is a unique app and one you want to take a look at.

During this free webinar, Dr. Stacia L Davis Conger from the LSU AgCenter will step us through online scheduling apps. During this webinar, you will learn the following:

  1. How and why online apps work for farming
  2. Why an online tool that considers drought is valuable
  3. How online tools are developed
  4. How the LSU AgCenter tool (in real-time) works

Stacia L. Davis Conger, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Irrigation Engineering at the LSU AgCenter and continues to serve as the State Extension Irrigation Specialist since 2014. She received her graduate training at the University of Florida, which included research and extension programming related to the operation and use of smart irrigation technologies by homeowners in Florida. Also, she participated in transitioning product testing of weather-based irrigation controllers from industry standards to labeling by the EPA WaterSense Program. Current projects involve research and extension of water-related best management practices across agriculture and landscapes, with a focus on irrigation systems and scheduling methods.
