According to the Lawn and Landscape Magazine, by 2060, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that Latinos will represent almost one-third of the population; that’s 119 million people. This poses a considerable challenge and an opportunity for the landscape industry, which comprises over 35 percent, Hispanic laborers. We need to communicate better with our teams, and even if you have some knowledge of Spanish, you may not know the terms or pronunciation of the irrigation terms.

Join Daniel Martinez and Dave Laybourn to learn how to use terms and phrases in English and Spanish to talk about important water management topics such as soil moisture, water bucket, trigger point, evapotranspiration.

In this session, you will learn:

  1. The proper way to pronounce and use common irrigation terms in a sentence
  2. Ways to educate your teams in Spanish on standard irrigation practices
  3. Proper pronunciation and use of essential irrigation products
  4. Learn how to use the Jain Unity mobile app in Spanish to manage ETwater controllers in the field

Before joining Jain Irrigation, Laybourn was at Olson Irrigation where he was responsible for the go-to-market of an automatic self-cleaning water filter for agriculture. Prior to Olson, he worked at Rain Bird in field sales and product management that included being named on two U.S. patents for drip irrigation. “Agriculture is where I learned about ET (evapotranspiration) and how valuable it is, not only for saving water but also for the best plant health,” said Laybourn. “I look forward to sharing this and other insights with the Enterprise about ETwater technology, which should be their basis for making investments in smart irrigation that deliver financial payback and a return on investment that is often much better than the owner’s core business.” Dave Laybourn has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
